Whitey Munn Awarded $500.00 Major Prize; Misses Perfect Game

Chalking up 1337 pins in the six games, averaging nearly 228 pins a game, William (Whitey) Munn, burly kegler from Elizabeth, NJ., claimant to the world's marathon championship, copped first prixe of $500.



Munn, performing on Saturdays night before a capacity crowd, displayed dazzling form to surpass Pvt. Vince Mikiel, of the U.S. Army Air Corps, Mitchel Field, Long Island, who rolled 1337 on Friday night. Mikiel won second honors, $200.

The tourney winner nearly enteres bowldom's hall of fame in the fourth game when he came within one pin of a perfect game. Munn, with the crowd applauding his every effort, racked up 11 straight strikes and on the 12th try the No. 6 pin failed to drop- robbing him of a 300 game, finishing with 299. He started off with a 210 and then continued with a 188, 222, 207 and 240.
